  Education

First Steps Playgroup

• We’ve provided free, part time early education for all 4 year olds whose parents want it.

• The Literacy and Numeracy Strategies have dramatically improved the quality of teaching and raised standards across the board leading to the best ever primary school results.

• All 6 of our secondary schools in Harlow have achieved Specialist College status – we’re one of only three places in the country to get specialist status for all our schools. This means around an extra £100,000 revenue grant from the Government plus an additional £123 per pupil per year on top of existing budgets, topped off by £50,000 drawn from community sponsorship raised by the schools. • 3 Harlow secondaries and their related primary schools are also receiving a share of a £750,000 per year Government grant under the Excellence in Cities initiative. This will fund more support for gifted and talented children, Learning Mentors, and the provision of Learning Support Units.

• Harlow has secured a School Sports Co-ordinator Programme which is bringing funding worth £586,577 for school sports into the town. The Programme has now completed its first year.
