  Internships

Internship placements in the offices of MPs are highly prized and availability is limited. The internship placement provides each participant with first-hand experience of the work of the MP and his office. You will make a genuine contribution to Bill Rammell’s work on behalf of the people of Harlow.

The placement will be based in either the Westminster or the constituency office in Harlow and, diary permitting, you will spend some time shadowing Bill Rammell, providing a more diverse and challenging experience. However, the availability of placements is dependent upon the work load of the office and the nature of the MP’s diary on any given day. You will be advised of this by the office in advance.

Some of the work will necessarily be routine and administrative in nature but wherever possible more challenging tasks will be provided subject to the commitment and skills you demonstrate during your placement.

We welcome all applications from young people who have an interest in politics and public service. Although preference is given to Harlow and Essex residents, students from all backgrounds are welcome to apply.

The Application Process

Please supply all of the following:

  • The Complete Application Form - download by clicking on this .doc symbol:  Internship Application
  • Your Curriculum Vitae
  • 2 references
  • A statement (no more than 400 words) describing why you want to be an intern in the Office of Bill Rammell MP and your interest in politics / public service

These should be returned by e-mail to: rammellb@parliament.uk or by post to: Bill Rammell MP, (F.A.O Internship Co-ordinator), House of Commons, Westminster, London, SW1 0AA

Funding
Please note that all internships are unpaid. However interns will receive reimbursement of reasonable travel expenses provided that these have been agreed in advance with the MP’s office and tickets are retained.

Confidentiality
During the course of a placement interns have access to highly confidential information. Each intern is therefore required, on their first day, to sign a legally binding confidentiality statement committing them to maintain that confidentiality during and after their placement. Failure to sign the statement will mean termination of the placement.
