• Anti-Social Behaviour is being tackled by the introduction of Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and Anti-Social Behaviour Orders. Harlow has also been allocated “Action Zone” status by the Home Office which means more advice and resources are available to tackle the problem.

• The Government has provided funding to enable Essex Police to recruit and train 75 Community Support Officers (CSO’s). These officers help to crackdown on the anti-social behaviour that blights local communities and work with local police officers to tackle crime in the community. At the end of last year more money was allocated through the Neighbourhood Policing Fund to provide another 41 CSO’s in Essex to help deal with these problems.

• New laws to curb racist crimes have been introduced.
