Bill Rammell Opens New Building At Roydon School - 8th October 2007

Bill Rammell opened the new building at Roydon School on the afternoon of Friday 5th October. He visited the school, met governors and staff, and toured the new building which includes 2 new classrooms, staff accommodation and a new resources room, before cutting a ribbon and unveiling a plaque to mark the formal opening of the building.

The building which cost £700,000 was largely funded through the increased capital investment programme made available to local education authority’s by the Labour Government, and by the school through its own accumulated capital funds.

Speaking after his visit to the school, Bill Rammell said, "The new classrooms are a wonderful addition to Roydon School that will benefit many local pupils in the years to come. I was honoured to be asked to be with the staff and governors on such an important day in the life of the school and to formally open the building for them."

"Roydon is the latest in a long line of schools here in the Harlow constituency that have benefited from the massive increase in capital investment to improve our school buildings. Over ten years ago schools regularly had to fund-raise to mend leaking roofs. The national school building improvement programme is addressing that. There’s still more to do but the new building at Roydon shows that real progress is being made."
