  Registering to Vote

Have you recently moved into Harlow or Epping-Forest? Have you just celebrated your 18th birthday?

If you answered 'yes' to either, you should register to vote!

The Register of Electors is a list compiled and held by your local Council. It contains the names and addresses of everyone elegible to vote in UK elections or referendums.

Anyone who is not on the register will be unable to vote in District, Parish / Town, County, Parliamentary and European Parliament elections.

You can register to vote if you are 16 years old or over and a British, Irish, Commonwealth or European Union citizen. If you are 16 or 17, you can only register if you will be 18 within the lifetime of the electoral register. This year's register lasts from 1 December 2006 to 30 November 2007.

You cannot vote until you are 18

Most people register between September and November every year when the Council delivers a registration form to your home.

However, you can also register throughout the year as the register is updated every month. This is useful if you move home and need to register at your new address.

For residents of Harlow, check out the Harlow council website information on Electoral Registration.

For residents of Nazeing, Roydon and Sheering, check out the Epping-Forest District council website information on Electoral Registration.
